Eleven riders from Wamboin competed at a very successful Geary’s Gap One Day Event on Sunday May 6.
It was great to see some new faces out and about for Wamboin.
In Mini E Sammy Quick had a great day on Monty – finishing 3rd overall!
In E Grade Wamboin was represented by Kaitlyn Brown, Tyla Harris & Craig Simpkin. Craig and his trusty mount Cisco performed very well in all 3 phases to eventually run out 4th overall – congrats Craig! Tyla & Kaitlyn were well placed after dressage & SJ but unfortunatley the tricky and tight GG x-country course meant they didn’t finish cleanly but were able to add valuable competition experience to their riding experience.
In the big D Grade field, the Wamboin riders were Lauren & Penny Slater, Gabrielle Simpkin & Ellen Smith. Gabrielle used the day as a dressage training opportunity, placing 5th on her new steed. Penny scored a 4th overall in the D1 group and Ellen finished 6th in the D2 division. Lauren & Cody had issues at the water jump which I am sure will help with Lauren’s training of a still quite young and green steed in Cody.
Competing at C Grade were Katie Slater & Nicole Smith. Katie won the closest to optimum time award for C grade and Nicole finished 2nd overall, just 3 seconds behind the first place x-country time, so it was a very tough & competitive C grade comp.
As well as the ODE, there was also a Combined Training event for A & B grade, where Casey Ivey competed at B grade. Casey won the award for best dressage score and also took out the winners sash in the B grade group.
As part of the event, there was a team competition and the Wamboin team of Nicole Smith, Penny Slater, Craig Simpkin & Tyla Harris rode their way into equal 2nd place – congratulations!!!
